How Can I Stay Motivated?

CONVERSATIONS:

Simple Definition of MOTIVATION

  • giving someone a reason for doing something
  • the condition of being eager to act or work (merriam-webster.com)

Have you ever felt like giving up? Maybe just quit your job and never get out of bed?

If there is anyone who had an excuse to be demotivated, that would be Hellen Keller. As a 19-month old baby, Hellen, lost both her sight and her hearing.

Because she was both blind and deaf, Hellen could not communicate with her parents or anyone, and was a wild, rebellious child.

What was the point of her being born? Why not give up, with all her handicaps?

Thank God, she had a teacher named Anne Sullivan, who knew God had a purpose for this child.

Like Teacher Anne, God uses His words, to motivate us to persevere:

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 ESV

1. Remember that, despite how you feel about yourself, You are created to be God’s Masterpiece.

This is God’s promise for his children. Hellen Keller defines “Optimism” as “the faith that leads to achievement.

Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” God has a good plan for your life , despite the challenges you face. He is the creator of your future even when there seems none.

2. You were created to do good works, prepared in advance by God.

You do not have to spend your life wondering, if you are doing the work that you should be doing. God has already prepared for you good, meaningful and satisfying work. Keep your faith in your Creator and your Savior, Jesus Christ.

Be open to the “good works” He brings your way and be obedient to give up the “bad works”,He may ask you to surrender.

Despite being blind and deaf, Hellen Keller graduated cum laude, from Radcliffe University, the first deaf and blind person to do so.

She authored many books and championed many causes for children and the handicap.

She visited 35 countries on five continents. She met with world leaders such as Winston Churchill, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Golda Meir.

“Wherever she traveled, she brought encouragement to millions of blind people, and many of the efforts to improve conditions for those with vision loss outside the United States can be traced directly to her visits.” (afb.org/info/about-us/helen-keller/biography)

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,  not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I latch onto Your promise, that as your child, I am your masterpiece. Thank you that I am not the master of my fate. You are.

I choose to put my trust in You, my Maker and Savior, to lead me into the good works that You have prepared in advance for me to do.

Thank You that you will supply me with all I need to accomplish these good works. Give me the strength and the discipline to persever and not give up, knowing You are with me all the way.

Help me to fix my eyes on Jesus and not compare my life with others around me. Let me live for your approval, in Jesus name, Amen.

My Comments Policy

While my site offers visitors the ability to converse, I have a few ground rules so that our conversations will remain civil and courteous.

1. You must register in order to leave a comment. I don’t entertain pseudo, anonymous or bogus individuals. This site is my home (it has a Home Page, get it). I don’t let strangers who don’t introduce themselves into my home.

2. I love questions. I love them because a lot of times they are similar to someone else’s questions and can even trigger other questions from others. Questions also keep us all sharp. This is also why I respond to them as best as I can and at the soonest possible time. I believe that group answering benefits more people than private email exchanges.

3. We don’t have to agree. Debates are welcome. However, whether it is with me or any other visitors of my site, my rule is this: disagree if you must but keep things civil. That’s just how I run my home, and you are a visitor here. No shouting; I have seen it done in writing. No cursing and no insulting.

4. I reserve the right to delete your comments. Like I said, this is my home. I do not have an obligation to publish your comments. As a human being, you may enjoy the freedom to express your opinions on your own site but not on mine. To be specific, I will delete your comments if you post content that is in my sole opinion: (a) snarky; (b) off-topic; (c) libelous, defamatory, abusive, harassing, threatening, profane, pornographic, offensive, false, misleading, or which otherwise violates or encourages others to violate my sense of decorum, civility or any law, including intellectual property laws; or (d) “spam,” i.e. an attempt to advertise, solicit, or otherwise promote goods and services. You may, however, post a link to your site or your most recent blog entry.

5. You retain ownership of your comments. I do not own them and I expressly disclaim any and all liability that may result from them. By commenting on my site, you agree that you retain all ownership rights in what you post here and that you will relieve me from any and all liability that may result from those posts.

6. You grant me the license to post your comments. This license is worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, and royalty-free. By posting comments on my site, you automatically grant me the right to store, use, transmit, display, publish, reproduce, and distribute your comments in any format, including but not limited to a blog, in a book, video, or presentation.

In short, my goal is to host interesting conversations with caring, honest, and respectful people. I believe this clear and simple comments policy will facilitate this.
